Track and field’s Deja Jones and men’s basketball’s Gerdarius Troutman both came out and impressed in their most recent competitions and for that they have been chosen as the Florida Atlantic University Players of the Week.
Jones had a tremendous showing at her first meet of the indoor season, placing third among the 66 runners participating in the 60-meter dash, crossing at 7.63. The senior was also 12th in the 200 meter (24.93). Her time in the 60 is currently fourth in Conference USA (C-USA). Jones was also part of the Owls' 4x400 meter relay that placed sixth out of 31 teams. Sherline Valentin, Jones, Berneta Boldin and Anne-Catherine Wasser ran to a combined finish of 3:51.70. This mark is the seventh fastest in program history.
Troutman responded well to receiving his first career start on Thursday night against FIU. In 25 minutes, the junior guard scored 18 points, pulled down a career-high six rebounds and added two assists and a steal. Troutman leads the Owls in scoring at 11.9 points per game in C-USA play.
Track and field’s next stop will be University Park, Pennsylvania where they will compete in the Sykes and Sabock Challenge Cup on Feb. 3-4. Men’s basketball is also on the road and will face Charlotte on Thursday, Feb. 2 and Old Dominion on Saturday, Feb. 4 with both games starting at 7 p.m.
