TUSCALOOSA, Ala. - Marla Keyes concluded her first season with Florida Atlantic University's women's cross country team at the NCAA South Regional Championships on Friday afternoon.

Keyes competed in the 6K run, crossing the finish line in 22:25.87. The Ontario, Canada native, recorded her collegiate best finish in the 6K at UCF's Black and Gold Invitational on Oct. 18, with a time of 22:15.47. Keyes' time at UCF put her among the ranks of FAU's top runners as she set the eighth best time in school history. She also broke into the all-time top-10 for the 5K with a final time of 18:19.92.

The freshman quickly became one of FAU's top competitors receiving conference honors to highlight her first season as she was named Conference USA's Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Oct. 21. Keyes was also named FAU's Student-Athlete of the Week on Oct. 28.

Fellow Owl Chloe Sell also qualified for the NCAA South Regional Championships however, due to a foot injury from the Conference USA Championships, Sell was unable to compete despite a valiant effort this season. Sell led the Owls at the conference meet with a final time of 17:46.90 in the 5K run, a personal record. Her finish secured her a Second-Team All-Conference award.

"Marla had a great first cross country season as an Owl" said head coach Alex Smolka. "Anytime a freshman is able to compete at the NCAA level it is an invaluable experience for them and a great validation of where our program is headed."
