ORLANDO, Fla. - Freshman Marla Keyes competed in the women's 6k at UCF's Black and Gold Invitational on Saturday. Keyes recorded Florida Atlantic University's top finish for the meet crossing the finish line in 22:15.47, good for third-place and a personal record.
Chloe Sell finished right behind Keyes earning fifth-place with a final time of 22:31.59. Freshman Brittany Garesio finished in 13th-place with a final time of 23:45.74. Kia Heller-Spencer improved her season record by nearly 30-seconds, finishing in 24:14.43. The sophomore finished the 6k at the University of Florida earlier this season in 24:44.04.
Tara Cripe, Emily Olson, Clare Brinkman and Tia-Rose Raymond rounded out FAU's top finishers. Cripe crossed the finish line in 24:31.60 for 30th-place. Olson and Brinkman finished just seven-seconds apart in 35th and 36th-place, respectively. Olson improved her season record by 38-seconds (25:05.62), while Brinkman improved by nearly 40-seconds (25:12.44). Raymond took 41st-place with a final time of 25:30.53.
The women's team finished third overall with an average time of 23:27.77. North Florida took first-place honors for the event.
FAU's men's team competed in the 8k with freshman Josh Peterson recording the team's top finish. Peterson earned 19th-place with a final time of 27:07.00. Christian Small followed finishing in 28:12.41 for 33rd.
Joshua Nicholas crossed the finish line in 28:24.48, while Neil Coffman finished in 28:42.84 earning 36th and 40th-place, respectively. Adam Simon rounded out the men's finishers taking 53rd-place with a final time of 29:57.54.
FAU's men's team finished in sixth-place with a team average of 28:28.86. North Florida claimed victory for the 8k with an average time of 26:20.62.
The Owls will spend the next two weeks training for their debut at the Conference USA Cross Country Championships on November 2 in Denton, Texas.
