GAINESVILLE Fla. – Florida Atlantic University's cross country team competed at the University of Florida’s Mountain Dew Invitational on Saturday.
The women’s team competed in the 6K tallying 212 points, good for eighth place overall, with an average time of 23:13.88. Sophomore Chloe Sell led the Owls with a 10th place finish. Sell’s final time of 21:46.66 is the fourth best time in school history.
Marla Keyes also broke into FAU’s All-Time Top-10 finishing in 22:26.35. The freshman’s time earned her 27th place at the invitational and is the ninth best time in school history. Brittany Garesio, Tara Cripe and Annie Cooper round out FAU’s top-five finishers for the women’s team with final times of 23:51.70, 23:56.98 and 24:07.68, respectively.
FAU’s men’s team finished in ninth place overall with a team average of 27:14.60 for the 8K. Michael Vidal was the team’s top finisher taking 54th place with a final time of 26:16.49. Josh Peterson finished second for FAU with a final time of 26:51.37, good for 82nd place. Peterson just missed beating FAU’s 10th best time in school history.
“Our underclassmen are moving in the right direction with many of our new runners already excelling in our first three meets” said head coach Alex Smolka. “Everything is going well and now we have a three-week training block to really focus on preparing for (the) Disney (meet).”
FAU’s men’s and women’s cross country teams will compete at the 18th Annual Disney Cross Country Classic on October 12 at 10 a.m.
