The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's cross country teams opened their season at home on Friday competing against the University of Miami.
Both teams competed in the 5000m run with the women finishing first over UM with a total score of 24. Freshman Christina Schultz led the Owls, finishing third out of 15 with a time of 21:13.4.
On the men's side, senior Josh Peterson finished second with a time of 16:32.8. Already holding the sixth best time in school history for the 5000m, this finish also puts him in the eighth spot for this event on FAU's All-Time Top 10 list.
"It was exciting to see both of our programs compete at home for the first time," said Alex Smolka, head coach. "Having teammates, fans, and administrators there to cheer us on is something we haven't experienced before so, it makes racing even more exciting."
"We had some very nice performances on both sides and the future looks bright," Smolka added.
Florida Atlantic will compete in the USF Collegiate Invitational on Friday, Sept. 5 at 5 p.m. For more information or to view the full cross country schedule, please visit FAUsports.com.
