HOUSTON, Texas – The Florida Atlantic University track and field team concluded competition at the 2014 Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championship on Sunday evening with senior and team captain Danielle Aromashodu qualifying for her fourth appearance at the first round of the NCAA Championships.
Aromashodu missed first-place by less than half of a second, finishing second in the
400 meter hurdles with a final time of 58.55. She is currently ranked 29th in the country going into NCAA preliminaries starting on Thursday, May 29th in Jacksonville, Fla. Teammate Lauren Walton also competed in the finals for the 400 hurdles. The senior took seventh-place recording a final time of 1:03.52.
FAU’s 4×100 meter relay team ran a season best time of 45.82 to finish seventh. The team included Deja Jones, Sitia Martinez, Nicole Poole and Regina Wilkerson. In the last event of the day, the 4×400 meter relay, FAU ran a season best, the third best time in school history and finished fifth. The team consisted of Aromashodu, Martinez, Jones, and Tanisha Coppin.
The conclusion of the conference championship marked the end of two Owls’ collegiate careers as FAU says goodbye to seniors Valerie Dixon and Walton. Aromashodu’s senior season will continue as she prepares for NCAA competition.
