Two Qualify for Finals on Day Three of C-USA Championships
HOUSTON, Texas – The Florida Atlantic Track and Field team finished the third day of the Conference USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with two Owls qualifying for Sunday’s finals in the 400 meter hurdles.
Danielle Aromashodu finished the preliminaries in first-place with a final time of 58.49. Aromashodu ran a season best time and her second best time ever for the event. Teammate Lauren Walton ran a season best time of 1:01.16 for eighth-place and also qualified for finals. Sitia Martinez finished the event ninth with a final time of 1:01.37.
In the 200 meter dash, Regina Wilkerson finished 12th with a final time of 24.56. The freshman missed qualifying for finals by 2/10 of a second. Elana Ainsley also ran the 200 meter and set a new personal best time of 25.01. Wilkerson also competed in the 100 meter dash which she finished ninth overall setting a new school record. Her final time of 11.72 was just 4/100 of a second short of qualifying for finals. Deja Jones ran a new personal best in the 100 meter, crossing the finish line in 11.81 for 10th place.
Tara Cripe competed in the 1500 meter run, recording a final time of 4:54.23. She finished 16th, just nine seconds out of qualifying for finals running her second best time ever. Valerie Dixon ran a season best time of 2:19.87 in the 800 meter run, but did not qualify for finals.
Sunday’s concluding running events include the 4x100 relay, the 100, 200, 400, 800, 1,500 and 5,000 meter, the men’s 110 hurdles, the women’s 100 hurdles, the 400 hurdles and the 4x400 relay. The concluding field events will include the triple jump, javelin, shot put, women’s pole vault and the men’s high jump.
