PHILADELPHIA, PA – The Florida Atlantic University track and field team was represented by three student-athletes at the 2014 Penn Relays at Franklin Field in Philadelphia, PA on Thursday evening. The annual event is one of the top track and field competitions held in the spring, bringing together student-athletes from 236 colleges across the United States, as well as college athletes from the Bahamas, Jamaica, Puerto Rico and Trinidad.
Chloe Sell finished the College Women’s 10k Championship in 36:24.30 for 30th-place. Sell is now ranked second on FAU’s All-Time Top-10 list and ranks her on the Conference USA Top Performance List. Her time beat the 11th-best time in the conference from last week’s rankings. Sell beat her personal record of 36:49.78 which she set during the 2013 outdoor season.
“As a sophomore, Chloe is making great progress from her times during her freshman season” said Head Coach Alex Smolka.
Tara Cripe and Kia Heller-Spencer competed in the Olympic Development Women’s 5k. Cripe set a new personal record, finishing 37th with a final time of 18:11.23. She is now ranked ninth on FAU’s All-Time Top-10. Heller-Spencer recorded her second-best time ever in the event with a final time of 18:52.42 for 38th-place.
“The results at Penn show that our runners are continuing to improve their finishes and are preparing well for the upcoming Conference USA Track and Field Outdoor Championship” said Smolka.
The Owls will compete in their final regular season meet on Saturday, April 26 at the North Florida Invitational in Jacksonville, FL.
