Track and Field Compete at Tom Jones Memorial Invitational

GAINESVILLE, FL – Florida Atlantic University’s track and field team traveled to Gainesville on Saturday to compete at the 2014 Tom Jones Memorial Invitational. The Owls collected numerous personal records to highlight the day’s event.

FAU’s 4x100 meter relay team finished fourth with a final time of 46.41, the best finish by a collegiate team. The team consisted of Deja Jones, Sitia Martinez, Nicole Poole and Regina Wilkerson. Jones also competed in the 100 meter dash recording FAU’s top finish. The freshman crossed the finish line 12th with a final time of 12.00, her third best finish. Poole also recorded her third best finish for the event with a final time of 12.14, good for 16th-place.

In the 200 meter dash, Wilkerson finished 24th with a final time of 24.59. Jones finished right behind Wilkerson in 25th place with a final time of 24.66, a personal record. Tanisha Coppin recorded FAU’s best time in the 400 meter, finishing 17th in 56.31. Valerie Dixon competed in the 800 meter dash, finishing with a season best time of 2:20.45 for 13th-place. Tara Cripe finished 11th in the 1500 meter run, setting a personal record of 4:51.16. Chloe Sell finished 14th with a final time of 4:57.76 and Kia Heller-Spencer finished in 5:03.90 also setting a personal record.


 

 

To highlight the day, Danielle Aromashodu finished second in the 400 meter hurdles, the top collegiate finish. The senior collected a season best time of 59.16, the fourth best time in her career. Sitia Martinez and Lauren Walton also competed in the event finishing fourth and fifth, respectively. Martinez tied her personal record of 1:01.79 and Walton ran a season best time of 1:01.91. In the high jump, Ashley Stewart and Keeana Lewis both set personal records with 1.59 meters. The pair are tied for seventh on FAU’s All-Time Top-10 list.

FAU will compete in their first out of state meet this week, traveling to Philadelphia, PA for the Penn Relays starting on Thursday, April 24.
