Wilkerson Breaks School Record at Miami Alumni Invitational

MIAMI, FLRegina Wilkerson finished the University of Miami’s Miami Alumni Invitational on Saturday setting a new school record in the 100 meter dash. Wilkerson crossed the finish line in 11.77 for first-place in the event’s second section and a fifth-place ranking in Conference USA.

FAU’s other runners in the event set new personal records. Deja Jones finished in 11.87 for third-place followed by Sitia Martinez in fourth-place with a final time of 11.89. Both Jones and Martinez are also now ranked in FAU’s all-time top-10. The 4x100 meter relay team ran the second fastest time in school history. The marks the second time the Owls have had a 4x100 relay team run sub 46 seconds. The team, including Jones, Martinez, Nicole Poole and Wilkerson, ranks fifth in the conference with a final time of 45.82.

In the 200 meter dash, Martinez ran a new personal record with a final time of 23.97 for third-place in section three. Martinez’s time marks the fourth best time in school history and ranks fourth in the conference. Tanisha Coppin ran a new personal record in the 400 meter dash with a final time of 56.20 for first-place in section three.

All of FAU’s participants in the men’s and women’s 1500 meter set personal records. Clare Brinkman finished second in section two with a final time of 5:11.33. Theresa Duncan, Kim Jones and Nathaly Gallego finished fifth, sixth and seventh, respectively. On the men’s side, Josh Peterson finished fourth in the first section with a final time of 4:12.04.


 

 

The 4x400 meter relay team finished second recording a final time of 3:44.95. The team included Coppin, Jones, Danielle Aromashodu and Martinez. Ashley Stewart ran a new personal record and is now ranked in the top 10 for the 100 meter hurdles with a final time of 14.70 for second place in section three. In the field events, Stewart finished seventh in the high jump, setting a persona record of 1.56 meters.

The Owls will return to Gainesville on Saturday, April 19 for the Tom Jones Memorial meet hosted by the University of Florida.
