MIAMI, Fla.- The Florida Atlantic University track and field team opened their outdoor track season on Friday night with the women competing at the University of Miami’s Hurricane Invitational and the men competing at the Florida State University relays.
In Miami, Chloe Sell claimed victory in the 5000 meter run crossing the finish line in 18:09.94. FAU’s Tara Cripe followed in second-place with a final time of 18:26.78, a new personal record in the outdoor event. Kia Heller-Spencer recorded a new lifetime personal record for the event with a final time of 18:41.04 for fourth-place. Freshmen Theresa Duncan and Nathaly Gallego set personal records in the 5000 finishing in 20:13.22 and 20:47.86, respectively. For the field events, Keeana Lewis and Ashley Stewart tied for fourth-place in the women’s high jump with 1.50 meter finishes.
At FSU Michael Vidal won the 5000 meter run out of 62 competitors. The junior crossed the finish line in 14:30.80 setting a new school record. FAU’s Josh Peterson also competed in the event finishing 18th with a final time of 15:32.60. Peterson’s finish is now the fourth-best time in school history and a new personal record.
Day two of the Hurricane Invitational and FSU Relays will take place on Saturday, March 22.
