Oct. 31, 2011
Boca Raton, FL - Running to all-conference accolades in the Sun Belt Conference's Cross Country Championships has earned senior Rebecca Hallam recognition as Florida Atlantic University's Student-Athlete of the Week. This marks the first time that Hallam has earned the award and the third time that a cross country member has been honored this fall. Hallam was the ninth runner across the finish line in the SBC meet, completing the course in 18:21.5 last Saturday at Bowling Green, Ky. That performance helped the Owls finish sixth in the meet. The Dundas, Ontario, Canada native earned all-conference honors for the second straight year. Looking ahead, homecoming week is upon the FAU campus this week with the football team hosting conference-leading Arkansas State University on Saturday, November 5, starting at 4 p.m. The Owls will be looking for their first victory of the season. Meanwhile, the men's soccer team will host defending national champion University of Akron on Sunday, October 6, at 2 p.m. The program will honor its senior players prior to the match. The volleyball team plays its final home match of the season on Tuesday, November 1, against in-state rival Florida Gulf Coast University in a non-conference encounter. The team will travel to Louisiana for a pair of SBC matches this weekend. The Owls battle University of Louisiana-Lafayette on Friday, November 4, and University of Louisiana-Monroe on Saturday.
The men's and women's swimming and diving teams travel to Miami for a triangular meet against Florida Southern and FIU on Saturday. Finally, the men's and women's golf teams close out the fall seasons at the Stetson Invitational on Monday, November 7.
