Boca Raton, FL - Winning the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic has earned Florida Atlantic University freshman Michelle Jax recognition as the Sun Belt Conference's "Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week." It marks the first time this season that the Germany native has been honored by the conference.

Jax, from Bad Ems, Germany, beat 268 runners with a time of 18:08.90 over the course of the five-kilometer race. That performance helped the Owls finish second in the team standings.

"The Sun Belt Conference award is very nice recognition and a deserving honor since Michelle is having such a strong season," said Alex Smoka, FAU's head women's cross country coach. "She had a very successful race, and we are hoping it can motivate the team to work hard throughout the rest of the fall season."

Jax has earned the athletic department's Student-Athlete of the Week honors twice this fall.

The FAU team is preparing for the Sun Belt Conference Championships which take place on Saturday, October 29, in Bowling Green, Kentucky.
