A record-setting goalkeeper and top-10 cross country runner are the latest duo to be named “Florida Atlantic Student-Athletes of the Week.”
Senior goalkeeper Ashley Lantes had a record-setting weekend in net as the women’s soccer team picked up two key home victories. The Clermont, Fla. native broke the school record for career saves with six saves in Sunday’s overtime win over Louisiana, surpassing Molly Keating’s program mark of 321 career saves from 2000-03. The senior goalkeeper has now recorded 326 saves in her four-year career. On Friday against ULM, Lantes made four saves in posting her second shutout of the, and had a 91-save percentage while stopping 10 of the 11 shots on goal in those two matches.
Sophomore Michael Vidal led the Owls at last Friday’s UCF Black and Gold Challenge with an eighth-place finish, the highest finish for a male runner this season. The native of Miami ran the 8K in a time of 26:40.65, and the men finished fourth among the 11 teams competing, in their final tuneup before the Sun Belt Championships. Vidal has the fastest 8K average on the team this season at 27:25.16.
