Boca Raton, FL - Freshman women’s cross country runner Michelle Jax has been named this week’s Florida Atlantic University Student-Athlete of the Week after winning last weekend’s 5K Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic. This marks the second time that the fleet runner has been honored this fall by the athletic department.
Jax beat 267 runners to the finish line in a time of 18:08.90, helping the Owls place second in the 28-team meet. She is now preparing for the UCF Knights Attack Challenge on Friday, October 14, in Orlando.
This is a historic week on the FAU campus as the athletic department unveils the new on-campus football stadium on Saturday, October 15, for a Sun Belt Conference game against Western Kentucky University, starting at 4 p.m.
The open-air stadium, a $70 million project, has 30,000 seats and features 6,000 premium seats, including 24 suites, 26 loge boxes, 1,000 premier club seats and 4,000 priority club seats, and the latest, state-of-the-art amenities.

Meanwhile, the women’s soccer team has a busy weekend, hosting league-leading University of Denver on Friday, starting at 7 p.m., and the University of North Texas on Sunday, October 16, at noon, at the FAU Soccer Stadium. This is Parent’s Weekend for the program.
The volleyball team travels to Middle Tennessee State University on Friday before facing Western Kentucky on Saturday in Bowling Green, Ky.
Finally, the men’s golf team will begin play at the Northwestern Invitational on Sunday near Chicago.
