Cross Country Squads Compete at FGCU Invitational

FORT MYERS, FL - The Florida Atlantic men's and women's cross country teams sent 16 runners to compete at the FGCU Invitational to open the season on Friday night, and placed a runner on each squad 15th overall.

Stacy Paton, running unattached, was the fastest women's runner at that 15th position (19:37.3). Junior Neil Coffman on the men's side ran the 8K in 27:42.4 to finish in the same slot.

The next top finishers for the women were sophomore Tara Cripe (23rd, 20:06.3), and freshman Katey CoDyre, making her FAU debut with a 26th place finish in 20:31.1. Second and third for the men, finishing back-to-back while also both making their debuts, were Christian Small in 24th, at 29:14, following right behind by Hunter Wampler at 29:16.2.

The women had 11 runners, with seven running their first race for the Owls, and finished third of the six teams competing. The men finished fourth, with five runners competing.

Both teams travel next to Tampa, this upcoming Friday, to take part in the USF Invitational.
