ORLANDO, FL - Three top-20 finishes gave the FAU men's cross country team a fourth-place finish at Friday's UCF Black and Gold Invitational, their final meet before the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Championships.
Sophomore Michael Vidal earned the men's first top 10 individual finish of the season, running the 8K race in 26:40.65 to place eighth. The next two finishers, both juniors, set personal records. Eric Kessler and Hunter Wampler finished 13th and 18th, respectively, with Kessler crossing the line at 26:57.11, while Wampler ran a 27:17.70.
The women ran a 6K for the first time this year. Freshman Chloe Sell was the Owls' top finisher at 28th, running that longer distance in a time of 23:49.01.
As has been the case most of this season, the next batch of women's finishers showed extreme balance, combining with Sell to lead the team to a ninth place finish.
Following the freshman were four teammates within six slots and less than 14 seconds of each other: Tara Cripe (51st, 24:34.81), Emily Olsen (53rd, 24:37.68), Katey CoDyre (54th, 24:43.89) and Megan Bary (56th, 24:48.49).
After five regular season meets, next up on the Owls' schedule is the SBC Championships. The team travels to Bowling Green, Ky., to compete on Saturday, October 27.
