Miami, FL - The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's cross country teams took part in a triangle meet with FIU and The University of Miami Thursday night.
Both the men's and women's teams took third place at the meet, which was hosted by UM. The women were led by Patricia Gumbs, who finished 14th in a time of 22:05. Christina Gazzia, completed the course in 22:18 to place 18th. Toni Jackson (22:07, 16th) and Monica Murillo (24:12, 24th) both ran well in their first races of the season. All four set new personal records at the meet. Artemis Saridakis finished her first 5K of the season in 24:12.
"Whenever four of your runners set new personal bests, it's a good thing," said head cross country coach Alex Smolka. "Artemis did a great job of helping the younger girls out, and she is a big reason they were so successful."
The FAU men, running in a pack as preparation for tomorrow's Stetson Invitational, crossed in the line as a team in a time of 27:51.
"Up until now, we had the guys focus on improving their time. Tonight we wanted them to focus more on strategy and teamwork," Smolka said.
Tomorrow's Stetson Invitational starts at 4:30 p.m. with the Women's 5K, followed by the Men's 8K at 5:10 p.m.
