Rebecca Hallam finished third individually at the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic

The Florida Atlantic University cross country teams had their best meet of the season. The Owls traveled to Lake Beuna Vista, FL to compete in the Walt Disney World Cross Country Classic on Saturday. The women placed second out of 28 teams, while the men ended with a fifth place finish in a field of 24 teams.
“It was a very good team performance on both sides,” said head cross country coach Alex Smolka, “It’s encouraging to see going forward into the season.”
Freshman Michelle Jax placed first in the entire meet with a time of 18:08.90 in the women’s 5k run beating 268 other runners. Also running well for the Owls was Rebecca Hallam (18:28.30) finishing in third, and Deanna Loafman (19:13.00) and Stacy Paton (19:16.90) who both also finished in the top 20 of the meet. Megan Bary (19:41.60), Charlene Luxama (19:50.10), Lindsay Lucas (19:55.20), Tara Cripe (20:09.90), Paige Lawton (20:21.60), Chelsea Connor (20:32.80), Helen Mann (20:46.50), Rebecca Fanali (21:02.70), Sarah Veazey (21:07.20), Candice Patrick (21:27.20), Chelsea Lettiero (22:40.60) also all competed.
As for the men freshman Michael Vidal found himself placing 17th overall and leading FAU with a time of 26:28.51 in his only second 8k run. Ryan Davis (26:56.88) came in second for the Owls, and Michael Neel (27:26.87) crossed the finish line after him finishing 42nd overall. Also competing for the men was Josh Wolfe (27:42.44), Eric Kessler (27:46.08), Mohammad Razib (28:27.08), Neil Coffman (28:49.22), Adam Simon (29:31.54), Julian Gomez (29:30.12) and Hunter Taylor (30:36.07).
The Owls have their next cross country meet on Oct. 14 in Deland, FL at the Stetson Hatter Invitational.
