The Florida Atlantic University track team will travel to Jonesboro, AR to take part in their first Sun Belt Indoor Championships.
FAU finished second at last year's Atlantic Sun Indoor Championships in their final year in the conference. The Owls finished third at their first Sun Belt Cross Country Championship meet in October and Head Track Coach Alex Smolka will be looking to duplicate that success.
"I'm expecting for a couple of runners to compete for individual championships," said Smolka.
The transition to the new conference has been made easier by several runners having breakout indoor seasons. Sophomore Trishauna Clarke has been arguably the best all around sprinter for the Owls, having broken the school record in the 55-meter dash in addition to excelling at the 200-meter dash.
Senior Yanique Booth set the school record in the 55-meter hurdles this season, giving her school records in three different indoor events. Freshman Frederike Feil has broken the school record at 3,000 meters twice during the indoor season, shaving almost 24 seconds off the original record in the process. Malika Clary, a senior from Tallahassee, broke the school record in the 400 meters this season, giving the Owls four different runners who broke school records during the indoor season.
The Sun Belt Indoor Track Championships will be held on Friday and Saturday.
