Women's Cross Country Finishes 7th

Florida Atlantic University's men's and women's cross country teams finished 16th and 7th at the 2004 Gator Invitational on Saturday morning. Nick Jarriel paced the men for the second consecutive week, while Trisha Doyle came out of the pack with a 13th place finish for the women.

Out of 22 teams, the Lady Owls pulled out a seventh place finish with three runners finishing in the top-40. Doyle ran a time of 18:28.88 to finish 13th in the 5K. The freshman posted the third fastest time in school history in her first collegiate race and first 5K run in her career. She was followed by Monika Grabowiecka in 33rd in a time of 19:30.85. Linn Modin, who paced FAU last week crossed the line in 38th in 19:45.19.

The women finished ahead of A-Sun competitors UCF, Jacksonville and Stetson. Other South Florida rivals that fell behind the Lady Owls included FIU and Miami. It was the first time that the Lady Owls have defeated UCF and Miami.

Jarriel crossed the line in 41st with a time of 28:21.07 followed by Earl Barow in 75th (29:31.70) for the men in the 8K race. For three of the five Owl runners, it was the first career 8K race.

The men finished ahead of A-Sun teams, Stetson and JU.

The teams will next compete on Friday in a meet hosted by UCF in Clermont, FL.
