LAFAYETTE, LA - The Florida Atlantic women's track team added another second-place finish in a distance event during day 2 of the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Championships Saturday from Louisiana-Lafayette.

Freshman Michelle Jax earned the school's second runner-up finish in as many days, as she competed in the 3,000 meter steeplechase. She finished just three seconds behind her personal best, and ran the ninth fastest time in FAU history in the event, crossing the line at 10:54.44.

Meanwhile, freshman Tatiana David had two top-5 finishes in the three events she had remaining in the heptathlon. She completed the seven events by finishing fourth in the 800 meters and fifth in the long jump. The three event finishes were:

  • Long jump, 5.16 meters (fifth)
  • Javelin throw, 24.26 meters (eighth)
  • 800 meter run, 2:28.91 (fourth)

Three FAU runners qualified for finals in their respective events with high finishes on Saturday. Danielle Aromashodu looks to bring home her second consecutive 400 meter hurdle title, as she qualified for the finals with the second-fastest time in that event on Saturday (1:00.53). Caitlin Jackson also ran in the race, finishing 16th overall at 1:05.73.

Two Owls' runners placed in the top five in the 400 meter run to move on to Sunday's finals. Anna-Lisa Myers (55:32) and Annakay Dennis (55.49) were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Valerie Dixon, in her first 800-meter run since returning from injury, finished just .37 seconds after the last runner to qualify for the finals, placing ninth at 2:15.88.

The 2012 Championships will wrap up on Sunday.
