LAFAYETTE, LA - Rebecca Hallam finished as runner-up in the 10,000 meters, and freshman Tatiana David is ninth after four of the seven events in the heptathlon, as day one of the 2012 Sun Belt Conference Championships is in the books from Louisiana-Lafayette.
Hallam, who won the 10K at last year's meet, finished 13 seconds behind the winner on Friday. Her time of 36:00.09 is the second best mark ever placed in the race in FAU history. Her teammates Megan Bary (40:14.97) and Tara Cripe (42:58.75) finished 13th and 17th, respectively.
David, with three events to go in the grueling heptathlon, has 2,718 points. Her finishes on Friday were as follows:
- 100 meter hurdles, 14.55 (fourth)
- High jump, 1.49 meters (11th)
- Shot put, 8.32 meters (12th)
- 200 meter dash, 26.13 (seventh)
The freshman will complete the heptathlon today when she competes in the long jump, 800 meter run and javelin throw.
Other individual preliminary events, as well as finals in the long jump, high jump and 3,000 meter steeplechase will take place today, with the Championships wrapping up on Sunday from Lafayette. Live results can be followed at www.deltatiming.com.
