Orlando, FL. - The Florida Atlantic University track and field team finished a successful first day at the 2003 Atlantic Sun Championship with 20 points to finish in third place. Ashley Stough took first place overall in the hammer throw and Nina Panebianco broke the school record in the javelin en route to two top five finishes in two events.

Stough, the FAU program record holder and top performer of the A-Sun in the hammer throw, took the top spot and 10 points after throwing two feet and three inches farther than the next opponent. Panebianco broke the program record in the javelin with a throw of 36.91m to take third place and six points. In the hammer throw, Pannebianco finished fourth with a throw of 44.15m, good for four points.

Jian Jones was the lone qualifier in the 100m with a time of 12.15. Daquia McCoy and Malika Clary finished seventh and eighth respectively.

Day two of the A-Sun Track and Field Championship will continue on Friday, April 18.
