Nashville, Tenn. - The Florida Atlantic University women's track team is in sixth place after completion of day one action in the Atlantic Sun Conference Championships on Friday. Senior Nina Panebianco grabbed four of the Owls' six points by finishing fourth in the hammer (43.50m) while junior Shanon Demarest's fifth-place finish in the long jump (5.33m) earned the other two points. In qualifying action, FAU runners will make up half of Saturday's 100m final field after sophomore Malika Clary, sophomore Yanique Booth, junior Jian Jones and senior Daquia McCoy all qualified. Booth also ran her way into Saturday's 100m hurdles final by winning her heat in the top qualifying time of 14.11 seconds.
In other action, Panebianco finished a disappointing 11th in the javelin and sophomore Brittany Powers, only weeks off knee surgery, was forced to withdraw mid-way through the 10,000m.
Day two action begins on Saturday at 8:30am EST with the discus as the Owls look to move up the standings.
