Tampa, FL. - The women's track team of Florida Atlantic University ran by everyone at the South Florida Invitational hosted by the University of South Florida as the team finished with two wins, seven top-5 finishes and 16 top-10 finishes. Raynell Hagberg broke the school record in the 800m dash while Ashley Stough set new program records in the discuss and hammer throw competitions.
Daquia McCoy set the tone for the day with a fourth place finish in the 100m dash and then a first place finish in the 200m dash with a time of 24.35. Freshman Marcia Laws returned to the 400m dash after taking a week off to finish seventh overall with a time of 58.40. Hagberg, the previous record holder for the 800m, ran a time of 2:11.87 to finish third overall. This marks the third consecutive week she has broken the 800m record. Claudia Beitel was on again in the 1500m as the junior from Longwood, FL, finished eighth overall with a time of 4:47.11.
Helenor Wilson was milliseconds away from breaking her own 400m hurdle record with a time of 1:02.57 to finish second overall, while Cindy Lane ran a 1:03.83 to finish sixth. The Lady Owl relay teams did well, with the 'A' team taking second in the 4x400m relay and first in the 4x100m relay.
Stough, a junior from Tuscon, AZ, shattered the record in the hammer throw the previous day with a throw of 48.32 while also demolishing the discus throw record with a throw of 43.14m to finish fifth overall.
FAU will compete in its final meet before the Atlantic Sun Championships on Saturday, April 12, at the Gatorade Invitational.
