Coral Gables, FL - Florida Atlantic University's track and field team set two more school records at the Hurricane Invitational. Helenor Wilson and Ashley Stough broke their own records in the 400m dash and discus throw while Claudia Beitel remained undefeated in 1500m and 3000m competition and Daquia McCoy became the first student-athlete to qualify for the NCAA regional championships.
Wilson broke her own record in the 400m dash after crossing the finish line with a time of 57.01 to finish seventh overall. She was also apart of the 4x400 relay team with Raynell Hagberg, Lindsay Glover and Cindy Lane that finished fourth.
Stough set a new school record with a throw of 44.29 in the discus throw. She finished seventh overall, respectively.
Beitel remained perfect in the 1500m and 3000m runs, finishing first in both competitions. The Atlantic Sun Women's Track and Field Performer-of-the-Week has won the 1500m competition twice and the 3000m competition three times.
McCoy qualified for the NCAA regional championships in the 200m dash after finishing third with a time of 23.94. She is the first to qualify this year for NCAA competition. McCoy also finished eighth overall in the 100m dash with a time of 12.03.
Monika Grabowiecka (11:02.94) and Amy Springer (11:16.31) both had strong showings in the 3000m run as well, finishing fifth and seventh respectively. Freshman Artemis Saridakis finished 10th in the 1500m with a time of 4:55.93
FAU participates in the Florida Relays Friday, March 26 and Saturday, March 27 in Gainesville, FL.
