March 5, 2005
ORLANDO - The Florida Atlantic University women's track team opened their 2005 outdoor season with a solid showing at the UCF Invitational on Saturday. The Owls had an especially good day in the distance events as three runners claimed first-place finishes. Redshirt Raynell Hagberg, running unattached, won the 1500m, Trisha Doyle won the 3000m, and Monika Grabowiecka set a personal best in winning the 5000m.
In the sprints, top three finishers included senior Daquia McCoy in the 100m (3rd, 12.04), sophomore Malika Clary in the 200m (2nd, 24.23), and sophomore Yanique Booth in the 100m hurdles (2nd, 14.53). Booth also set a personal best in the 100m with a 12.37 mark. Other personal bests came from sophomore Artemis Saridakis, who ran a collegiate-best 2:21.80 to finish fourth in the 800m, and the 4x100m relay 'B' squad, who ran a 48.24 to edge the 'A' squad after they dropped the baton while leading the race.
The Owls return to Orlando on Friday to participate in the two-day Disney Relays in Orlando.
