MURFREESBORO, TN - Day one of the Sun Belt Conference Indoor Championships saw four top-10 finishes for the Florida Atlantic track team, as well as two individuals qualify in three different events to move on to today's finals, including a first-place finisher in the preliminary round.
Annakay Dennis qualified in two different events, including that top time, in the 400-meter dash. Her time of 56.10 put her atop the field, and equaled the FAU indoor record set in 2008 by Toyria Mattear. Dennis also finished fifth in the qualifying heat of the 200-meter dash to move to today's finals, with a time of 24.74.
Also moving on to today's 800-meter dash finals is Valerie Dixon. She bested her fastest time of the season by nearly three seconds, to 2:14.94, finishing fourth among qualifiers in that event.
The top finisher in a final on Saturday was Rebecca Hallam, who was fourth overall in the 3,000-meter run. Her time was 9:48.66. Michelle Jax also finished in the top 10 in that race, crossing the line in eighth place, at 10:01.66.
The SBC Indoor Championships wrap up today with 10 more women's finals to be decided.
