BOCA RATON, FL - Florida -Atlantic University's women's track team traveled to the "Big Apple" last weekend where the squad participated in one of the largest in-door meets in the country, the New York City New Balance Invitational.
The two-day event featured teams from the ACC, SEC, Big East, and -USA. Teams came from as far away as Portland, Oregon and Utah, Idaho and Texas.
"The New Balance is always a great experience for our team and a great way to prepare for the conference championships," said Alex Smolka, FAU's head track coach. "We competed against some of the top track & field athletes in the country."
The most impressive FAU races came in the distance events.
Iki Feil shattered her school record in the 3K by 19 seconds and earned a fourth place finish behind individuals from Villanova, Princeton and Georgetown. She outpaced runners from Duke, Baylor, Columbia and Villanova. Teammate Rebecca Hallam just missed her 5K FAU record time by 0.11 seconds and finished No. 11 in the championship section.
