Peyton, Bucz Honored As "Student-Athletes of the Week"

Oct. 24, 2012

Senior swimmer Eszter Bucz kept up her winning ways, while freshman golfer Derron Peyton led his squad to a runner-up finish, and the duo were named the latest FAU “Student-Athletes of the Week.”

Bucz won every individual event she participated in, in a tri-meet Saturday with Florida State and FIU. The senior took first place in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.13), 200-yard breaststroke (2:18.52) and 400-yard IM (4:21.59). In addition, her 200-yard medley relay team finished as runners-up, by just 57-hundredths of a second to a team from FSU. In two meets this season, the Budapest, Hungary native has finished first or second in five of eight individual events, with all finishes coming in the top 10. As a result of these meets, Bucz has twice won Sun Belt Swimmer of the Week already this season, and now has 11 such honors in her four-year career.

At the HBU Men’s Intercollegiate in Missouri City, Texas, Peyton was the top finisher for the second-place Owls. He placed sixth outright at a 1-over-par 214, shooting round scores of 69-74-71 at the Quail Valley El Dorado Golf Club. Among those playing in more than one tournament, he ranks second on the Owls in scoring average at 74.78, and his rounds of 69 both on Monday and previously at the Cobra-PUMA Invitational are third best of all the men’s golfers this year.
