Bucz Named SBC Swimmer of the Week

Oct. 10, 2012

Senior Eszter Bucz notched the 10th Sun Belt Conference Swimmer of the Week award of her career, as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

Bucz led the Owls two weekends ago in their season-opening meet, the All-Florida Invitational in Gainesville, Fla., with five top-10 finishes, including the team’s first win of the year. She finished first in the 200-yard breaststroke, hitting the wall in a time of 2:16.09, defeating rivals from the University of Florida, the University of Miami, and Florida State University, among others.

The senior native of Budapest, Hungary, added a runner-up finish in the 400-yard IM (4:20.66) and a fourth-place finish in the 500-yard freestyle (4:58.26). She was also eighth in the 200-yard IM (2:13.29) and ninth in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:06.28).

Bucz previously won the SBC Swimmer of the Week three times her freshman year, four times as a sophomore and twice last season as a junior. She will look to duplicate her season-opening performance when the Owls take the pool on Oct. 20 in Miami, Fla., in a tri-meet against FIU and Florida State.
