BOCA RATON, Fla. -
Florida Atlantic University diver Victoria Moretti added one more accolade to her ever-impressive resume as she snagged the title of 2017 Conference USA (C-USA) Freshman Diver of the Year as announced by the league on Wednesday.
Moretti proved to be an important addition to the Owls’ squad as she was the first diver to advance to the NCAA Championships since Marion Reiff went in 2002. The freshman competed in both the 3-meter and platform events at the championships after qualifying for both events at the NCAA Zone B Diving Championships. Prior to that, she won the 1-meter (296.55) and 3-meter (317.10) titles at the C-USA Swimming and Diving Championships to earn Diver of the Meet honors.
“I am very proud of the way Victoria represented FAU in Conference USA,” said Head Swim and Dive Coach Lara Preacco. “She showed great skills and maturity during her competition at both conference and NCAA Championships. I believe Victoria learned a lot this past semester and will be able to apply that knowledge to continue making FAU great. Great job, Victoria!”
In just three months with the team, Moretti broke all three FAU program and Freshman diving records not once but twice. She also holds the top score in C-USA in the 3-meter (332.40), third best in the 1-meter (296.55) and second highest score on the platform (256.45). She has been under the tutelage of first year Dive Coach Yaidel Gamboa since his time leading the diving program at YCF (YMCA of Central Florida) in Orlando.
Moretti and her fellow Owls will welcome the 2017-18 class this summer as they continue training in preparation for next season. For all the latest swimming and diving news, follow the team on Twitter and Instagram @fauswimdive and visit www.FAUsports.com.
