INDIANAPOLIS, IN - Senior swimmer Eszter Bucz traveled to Indianapolis today for the 2013 NCAA Division 1 Women's Swimming and Diving Championship. The three day championship will take place starting on March 21-23 at the IU Natatorium and IUPUI Sports Complex.
Bucz competed and qualified for the championship at her final Sun Belt Conference Championship earning two gold medals and receiving the Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Year Award. Bucz posted her NCAA qualifying times finishing the 200 IM in 1:58.48 and the 200 breast in 2:11.69.
As Bucz left today for the championship, the swimming and diving team and Florida Atlantic's athletics staff gathered to send her off. Bucz's teammates brought balloons, congratulations signs, and presents as they celebrated her accomplishment. She traveled to the championship with assistant coach Oliver Agh and the pair will meet Coach Steve Eckelkamp, who is a member of the NCAA Swimming Committee, at the championship.
Eszter is the first swimmer to qualify for the NCAA D1 Championship since Ellie Weberg competed in 2006. Weberg qualified in the 100 and 200 breast in 2004 and 2006 when she placed fourth in both events.
Bucz will compete in the 200 IM on Thursday and the 200 breast on Saturday. Time trials will take place in the morning and qualifiers for the finals will compete at 7 p.m. each day.
