BOCA RATON, Fla. -
The Zone B Championship is one of five meets across the country where divers attempt to qualify for the 2017 NCAA Division I Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Championships. Each zone is allotted a specific amount of NCAA qualifiers, and typically the top finisher(s) in each event get to advance to the NCAA Championship. The women’s championship will be held on March 15-18 and the men’s will take place on March 22-25, both at the IU Natatorium on the campus of IUPUI in downtown Indianapolis, Indiana.
McIntire will represent FAU in the 1- and 3-meter while Miller will compete in those events along with the platform. McIntire just returned from the Coastal Collegiate Sports Association (CCSA) Swimming and Diving Championships where he defended his titles in the 1- and 3-meter dives breaking the conference, championship meet and FAU records in both events. For his efforts, he was named the Most Outstanding Male Diver of the Meet. Miller also had a solid outing taking fourth in the 1-meter (324.85) and fifth in the 3-meter with a personal best score of 349.20.
Moretti, who joined the team in January, has made an immediate impact, which she carried into the Conference USA (C-USA) Swimming and Diving Championships. The freshman began the meet by winning the 3-meter (317.10) for the first time since 2009 when the Owls were in the Sun Belt. Moretti added C-USA 1-meter Champion to her resume as she won that event the next day breaking a nearly 10-year-old FAU record and setting a freshman record and lifetime best (296.55). She finished the competition as the platform runner-up (256.45) and was named the Diver of the Meet.
The Owls will be joined by first-year FAU Dive Coach Yaidel Gamboa. Gamboa earned CCSA Men’s Diving Coach of the Year and C-USA Diving Coach of the Year.
