TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's swimming and diving team competed in a dual meet at Florida State on Saturday morning. The men's team suffered a 168-66 loss to the Seminoles while the women fell, 150-88.
Spence Atkins had an impressive day and came away with three first place finishes in the 500 yard freestyle (4:57.73), 1000 yard freestyle (10:14.72) and 100 yard butterfly (56.54). Natalie Clausen kept pace with Atkins in the 1000 yard freestyle, finishing second with a time of 10:24.24.
Abby Marshall and Danica Garbett each had third place finishes on the day. Marshall had a time of 24.11 in the 50 yard freestyle. Garbett recorded a 2:07.77 time in the 200 yard IM.
On the men's side, the Owls had three swimmers with third place finishes in the meet. Will Smith had a time of 9:39.87 in the 1000 yard freestyle. Alex Taber clocked in at 52.40 in the 100 yard backstroke. Connor Hodges finished with a time of 4:44.06 in the 500 yard freestyle.
Logan Downey also picked up a third place finish in the 3 meter diving event with a score of 256.80.
The women's swimming and diving team will host FIU on February 3 for the final home event of the 2017-18 season. The meet is set to begin at 11 a.m. The Owls will compete in the All-Star Meet in Orlando, Fla. February 9-11.
