FAU Swimming and Diving Celebrates Senior Day vs. Fordham, Central Connecticut

BOCA RATON, Fla. -- The Florida Atlantic University men's and women's swimming and diving teams honored six seniors at the final home dual meet of the 2017-18 season on Saturday afternoon at the FAU Aquatics Center. Matt Menendez, Aaron Spence, Cole Wisecarver, Kyleigh Firman, Bailey Grabenhorst and Megan Reuter were recognized during a pre-meet ceremony.

The men's team claimed a 143-118 win over Fordham, while the women defeated Central Connecticut, 164.5-94.5, but lost to Fordham, 172-87.

HIGHLIGHTS

Women

The Owls had seven claim spots in the top two in various events in Saturday's meet. Spence Atkins continues her impressive debut season with FAU, clinching first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:52.56), 200 yard butterfly (2:01.26) and the 500 yard freestyle (4:59.13).

Abby Marshall placed first in the 100 yard backstroke (57.81) and second in the 50 yard freestyle (24.27). Danica Garbett clinched first in the 200 IM with a time of 2:09.16, her best time of the season. Danielle Zacharias came in second in the 1650 yard freestyle with a 17:59.51 time.

Lauren Beyer placed first in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 239.32 and second in the 1-meter event (236.62).

Men

Will Smith had a pair of wins in the meet. He placed first in the 1650 yard freestyle (16:08.43) and in the 500 yard freestyle (4:44.38). Alex Taber also had an impressive day with first place finishes in the 100 yard backstroke (52.81) and the 200 yard backstroke (1:54.05).

Connor Hodges placed first in the 200 yard freestyle (1:45.12) and had a second place finish in the 500 yard freestyle (4:45.29). Phillip Crouch also had a first place and second place finish in the meet. He took first in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:10.34) and second in the 100 yard breaststroke (59.02).

Michael Rahrig claimed first in the 200 yard butterfly event for the first time this season with a time of 1:55.36. Colin Kozak and Cole Wisecarver had a close finish in the 100 yard freestyle with Kozak edging Wisecarver by .01 seconds.

Miles Miller took first in the 1-meter diving event (220.05) and the 3-meter event (239.32). Downey finished second in the 3-meter with a score of 236.62.

UP NEXT

The Owls will go on the road for a meet at Florida State on January 27 and the women will host FIU at FAU Aquatics Center on February 3. Both meets start at 11 a.m.
