BOCA RATON, Fla.- The Florida Atlantic University men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed against Georgia Tech and Maywood University in a dual meet on Saturday at FAU. The Owls’ performance was highlighted by first-place finishes by Tyler Aycock, Annett Kovacs, Iwona Lefanowicz and the men’s freestyle relay team.
Aycock finished first in the men’s one meter dive with a score of 318.00 in the finals. Teammate Ryan McIntire followed taking second-place honors with a score of 305.85. Aycock was FAU’s top finisher in the three meter dive, finishing in second with a score of 325.60. McIntire finished the three meter dive in third scoring 314.85.
Kovacs hit the pad first in the 200 yard butterfly finishing in 2:03.26, more than three seconds faster than the next finisher. Lefanowicz took first in the 200 yard backstroke with a time of 2:03.75 in the finals, nearly six seconds faster than the next finisher. Collectively, both the men’s and women’s team took nine top-three finishes at the meet.
FAU posted a final time of 1:25.77 to clinch first in the men’s 200 yard freestyle relay. The relay team included Mathieu Burtez, Torbjorn Persson, Hunter Swartsel and John Walsh. Burtez also finished the 100 yard freestyle in second-place with a time of 46.92 in the finals. Burtez was followed by John Nolte in third (48.34).
The men’s team finished with a score of 197.00 against Marywood University (44.00) and 70.00 against Georgia Tech (171.00). The women’s team finished with a score of 194.00 against Marywood (43.00) and 62.00 against Georgia Tech (181.00).
