The Florida Atlantic University men’s and women’s swimming and diving team faced Florida Tech on Friday, taking home 16 first place finishes. Both the men and women’s team picked up its first win of the season, with the men winning 119 to 86 and women 169 to FIT’s 35 points.
Rachel Crino, Hannah Roper, Laura Conoscenti, and Katie Dodge started FAU off with a win in the 200 medley relay with a final time of 1:48.59. The men’s team featuring Hunter Swartsel, John Nolte, Michael Rahrig, and Matthieu Burtez followed, picking up a second place finish in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:34.20.
Senior Abbey King had two first place finishes in the meet. The first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:30.34 and the second in the 500 free with a time of 5:08.89. Also with two wins was senior Agnes Bucz, coming in first in the 50 free (24.38) and 100 free (52.57). Bucz also was a part of the 200 free relay team that brought home a first place finish with a final time of 1:39.17. The other members of the 200 free relay team were Rachel Crino, Megan Reuter and Kyleigh Firman.
Paulina Boeger brought home two first place finishes for FAU, in the 200 IM with a final time of 2:09.23. She also came in first in the 100 back (58.54). Laura Conoscenti took home first place in the 100 fly (58.26) and second place in the 500 free (5:16.13).
Matthieu Burtez was the Owls’ top performer, earning first place in the 50 free (21.04) and 100 free (46.43). John Brennock brought home a first place finish for the Owls in the 100 backstroke finishing with a time 51:47. Brennock also finished second in the 50 free, just behind teammate Burtez with a time of 21:17. Other top finishes from the men, were in the 200 free relay with the team consisting of Brennock, Burtez, Oakes, and Nolte (1:23.61). Also, freshman Michael Rahrig placed first overall in the 100 fly with a final time of 51.23.
Multiple lifetime best were set at the meet. Junior Laura Conoscenti set a lifetime best with her first place finish in the 100 fly (58.26). Second, was sophomore Madison Gilbert in the 50 free finishing in 25:87. Junior Rachel Rende had two lifetime best in the 200 free (2:05.15) as well in the 100 fly (1:01.64). Junior Diana Rodriguez put up a time of 2:03.02 in the 200 free for a lifetime record. Last for the women was freshman Paulina Boeger achieving lifetime best in the 50 back (27.55), 100 back (58.54), and 200 IM (2:09.23).
On the men’s side, Zach Kitzis had a lifetime best in the 1000 free with a time of 9:44.73. Second, was sophomore Matthew Menendez with a lifetime best in the 1000 free (10:23.80). Another best came from Joaquin Garcia Uribe in the 100 free (48.68). Other lifetimes best one the men’s side were Hodges in the 200 free (1:44.23), Kemp in the 50 back (25.71), and String in the 1000 free (10:07.82).
Next for FAU, the men competed against Texas A&M Saturday Nov. 7th and both men and women will compete at Indian River in Fort Pierce, Fla. on Nov. 13, at 3 p.m.
