MIAMI, Fla. – The Florida Atlantic University women’s swimming and diving team opened their 2013-14 season on Saturday afternoon at the FIU Biscayne Bay Aquatic Center. Top finishes by Anett Kovacs, Iwona Lefanowicz and Frida Nilsson highlighted FAU’s performance.

Kovacs finished in first place in the 200 fly with a final time of 2:04.08. The junior hit the pad over six seconds before FIU’s second-place finisher. Kovacs currently holds the school record for the event finishing in 1:58.39 during the 2011-12 season.

Lefanowicz secured first-place honors in the 200 backstroke finishing in 2:04.06. The junior native of Lublin, Poland, holds the school record for the 200 back, set last season with a time of 1:58.83.

Nilsson rounded out the Owls’ top finishers claiming first in the 100 fly finishing in 56.51. Nilsson also holds a school record in the 100 fly which she set last season with a final time of 54.84.

The Owls had 36 top-five finishes overall, but fell to the Panthers 175-102. FAU will host Princeton in a scrimmage on Saturday, Oct. 26 at 10 a.m. at the FAU Aquatic Center on the Boca Raton campus.
