GAINESVILLE, FL - On day one of the competitive All-Florida Invitational, the FAU men's and women's swimmers placed eight individuals in the top 10 in their events, and had two relay teams in the top five.
Senior Eszter Bucz had the top FAU finish on Friday, hitting the wall fourth in the 500-yard freestyle, in a time of 4:58.26. Bucz added an eighth-place finish in the 200-yard IM (2:13.29).
On the men's side, the top individual to place was senior Eric Williams, in the 50-yard freestyle. His time of 20.70 was good enough for fifth overall, and was only .06 seconds away from third.
Two men's relay teams had strong showings. The lineup of Williams, freshman Matthieu Burtez, Torbjorn Persson and John Walsh was third in the 200 yard freestyle (1:23.34). Walsh, Williams and Burtez joined Alan Forbes (swimming the second leg in that order), and combined to finish fifth in the 400-yard medley relay (3:29.62).
Other top 10 individual finishers for the day were:
- Anett Kovacs, 6th, 500 yard freestyle (4:59.50)
- Nilsson, 6th, 50 yard freestyle (24.08)
- Forbes, 7th, 200 yard IM (1:55.31)
- Burtez, 10th, 500 yard freestyle (4:40.79)
- Burtez, 10th, 50 yard freestyle (21.25)
The men are third after the first day, with 214 team points, trailing only the University of Florida and Florida State. The women are fifth, behind those two schools, the University of Miami, and Florida Gulf Coast. They have 130 points.
