ROCKWALL, TX - Florida Atlantic University's women's team traveled to Texas for the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Swimming and Diving Championship at the Rockwall Aquatic Center. Senior Eszter Bucz finished the championship earning two gold medals and the 2013 Sun Belt Conference Most Outstanding Swimmer of the Year award. Bucz has now earned a total of six SBC gold medals in her career with FAU.
The Owls took home five first-place wins over the four days of competition. Eszter's two gold medals were earned in the 200 yard IM (1:58.48) and 200 yard breast (2:11.69). Her younger sister, freshman Agnes Bucz, hit the pad first in the 100 yard free with a final time of 50.62, and also took the win for the 200 yard free (1:48.16). Anett Kovacs rounded out Florida Atlantic's wins in the 200 yard butterfly (1:59.51).
Florida Atlantic's relay teams posted final times taking three top-three finishes. Frida Nilsson, Michala Nowak, Eszter, and Agi Bucz took third in the 400 yard freestyle relay. The team finished with a final time of 3:24.42, less than two-seconds from the second-place finisher. Iwona Lefanowicz, Nilsson, and the Bucz sisters contributed to third-place finishes in the 400 yard medley relay and the 200 yard medley relay.
FAU finished fourth overall with a total 498 points over 20 events. The team will find out on Wednesday, March 6, if Eszter Bucz will swim in the NCAA D1 Championships on March 20.
