With the completion of the fourth day of the National Independent Conference Championships in Oakland, Michigan, Florida Atlantic University's men's and women's swim teams earned third and fifth place finishes at the conference meet, respectively. Five second place finishes highlighted individual performances for the Owls.
The 200-yard backstroke was a strong event for FAU as the team picked up second place finishes in the men's and women's events. Kelly Pancake touched the wall in a season-best 2:04.53. In the men's event Scott Hobson has the opportunity to be invited to the NCAA Championships after he swam a 'B' cut time of 1:47.02.
Lisa Andersson and Travis Howard also recorded 'B' cut times in their respective events. Andersson who won the 200-freestyle placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 50.47, while Howard finished second in the 200-yard breaststroke (1:59.31) behind the 'A' but time of Cheyne Bloch from the University of Hawaii.
Tara Putnam finished second in the 200 breaststroke for the women posting a time of 2:23.48.
Swimmers who received 'B' cut times will wait for an invitation to the NCAA Championships to be held March 14-16 at Auburn.
