HOUSTON, TX - Florida Atlantic University's men's swimming and diving team competed in the 2013 Conference USA Swimming and Diving Championship at the University of Houston Campus Recreation and Wellness Center Natatorium over the weekend. The Owls finished in fourth place with five top-three finishes over the four days.
Florida Atlantic finished in third after day one with a score of 99. Hunter Swartsel, Alan Forbes, Matthieu Burtez and Eric Williams competed in the 200 yard medley relay, taking a third-place finish with a final time of 1:30.19. Gregory Cox, who scored the top one-meter men's dive for FAU last season, also contributed to the Owl's score, finishing in fourth in the one-meter (287.75). FAU went on to compete on day two of the championships with a third-place finish in the men's 200 yard freestyle relay (1:21.58).
The Owls' third day of competition was highlighted by Matthieu Burtez's performance in the 200 yard freestyle. Burtez finished in fourth in the preliminaries (1:38.77) but improved his time, hitting the pad third in the finals (1:38.15). On the final day, the team's 400 yard freestyle relay team took the Owl's top finish for the championships, swimming in second-place (3:00.20). The team included Burtez, Williams, John Walsh and Torbjorn Persson. Tyler Aycock took third in the platform dive, scoring 257.75.
