Lefanowicz and Kovacs Record Wins at FSU

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. - In the first of two road meets this weekend, Florida Atlantic University's men's and women's swimming and diving teams traveled to Tallahassee, Florida on Friday, Jan. 17 to face the Florida State University Seminoles.

For the men's team, Matthieu Burtez and Torbjorn Persson were the Owls top finishers. Burtez finished the 500 yard freestyle with a final time of 4:45.91. FAU's Austin Olivares (4:57.33), Tucker Lewis (4:59.73) and Tom O'Connor (5:09.57) followed. Persson hit the pad in the 100 yard butterfly with a final time of 52.73. FAU's Daniel Sugishita (54.28), Hunter Swartsel (54.57), Rich Andrews (54.84) and Malachi Oakes (55.07) also competed in the event following Persson. Burtez and Persson shared a final time of 1:25.80 in the 200 yard freestyle relay with teammates John Walsh and John Nolte.

In the men's 200 yard breastroke, Kameron Sipowski clocked in at 2:12.43. FAU's Aaron Custodio (2:15.66), Sid Golliher (2:25.19) and Isaiah Green (2:33.70) finished behind Sipowski.  Greg Cox led FAU's diving team posting a score of 320.25 in the three meter dive.

On the women's team, Agi Bucz finished the 500 free in 5:03.65 followed by FAU's Abbey King (5:10.84), Laura Conoscenti (5:21.56), Breanna Saukas (5:25.92) and Emma Volz (5:30.65). Bucz clocked in at 2:08.61 in the 200 IM followed by teammates Iwona Lefanowicz (2:12.76), Hannah Roper (2:16.13), Chelsea Onstott (2:18.82) and Rachel Rende (2:23.32).

Lefanowicz claimed victory in the 200 yard backstroke with a final time of 2:03.91. The Owls went on to record another win in the 200 yard butterfly with Anett Kovacs in the lead recording a final time of 2:02.48.

Both the men's and women's team came in second to FSU. FAU's men finished the day with a score of 112 while FSU scored 174. The women's team scored 113 falling to FSU's final score of 176.
