As part of Florida Atlantic's Athletic Department's commitment to build relationships with the Owl community, the annual fundraising organization has been renamed to the Owl Scholarship Fund (OSF). The name is symbolic of FAU's commitment to increase the focus on philanthropic giving which will directly impact the lives of FAU's more than 450 student-athletes.
"Successful fundraising is built on great people supporting a worthy cause and we need the support of our friends, alumni and community more than ever," said Pat Chun, FAU's director of athletics. "Our mission is to create a transformational experience for 450 student-athletes competing in 19 varsity sports. Life lessons learned from athletics complements complements the academic lessons taught in the classrooms. The Owl Scholarship Fund will help fund our mission."
The OSF name is just that - a name. Like our teams, which have one mission but are comprised of individuals with diverse backgrounds and skill sets, the OSF membership will have one mission but will diverse with various levels of giving.
"After listening to our fans, supporters and potential Owl Scholarship Fund members, it was important to rebrand, refocus and rename our annual fund to exemplify what we are truly here to do," said Daniel Heflin director of the Owl Scholarship Fund. "It is important for us to be clear and create a culture of giving towards student-athletes scholarships. "
The changes are not limited to the name. Owl Scholarship Fund memberships start at $50 and increase to allow Owl fans various opportunities of giving. Each level of giving provides the member with additional benefits such as; reserved priority football parking, access to the FAU Stadium's Delray Acura Club hospitality; events and invitations to special events hosted by the athletic department.
The necessary donated scholarship funds will the department focus operational funding towards a more holistic experience as well as academic counseling, sports medicine, and much more. Additional revenue can provide a competitive edge by enabling a national reach in recruiting, providing salary support for coaches and allowing the department of athletics the opportunity to grow and expand its reach further into the community through community service.
