Prior to coming to FAU, Mike Lacey served three years as the Director of Football Academics at Idaho State University. He had also served there as the academic advisor for men’s basketball, in addition to various other capacities in athletics and academics for ISU since 2009.
In his role as Director of Football Academics, Lacey is responsible for advising student-athletes on course selection, graduation progression and career decisions, as well as performing evaluations of initial eligibility for student-athletes. He also collaborates with university advisors regarding degree programs and requirements along with course selection in addition to APR data input and interpretation. In addition to his everyday duties, Lacey also helps with student development and acts as a community service liaison for football as well as a study hall liaison for football.
At ISU, prior to his position as Director of Football Academics, Lacey worked as an academic advisor in the school’s central academic advising office from January 2014 to September 2014. He advised the general student population for course selection and career decisions in addition to assisting students with financial aid appeals. He also acted as the coordinator of the Admission Agreement Program (AA) where he maintained the AA database and managed all student peer advisors.
Before working as an academic advisor for the university, Lacey worked for two years as a graduate assistant for Student-Athlete Support with the Idaho State athletic department. He was the lead academic advisor for men’s basketball and acted as the director of athletic study hall.
Lacey played basketball for Idaho State University during the 2008-11 seasons and was a two-year team captain for the Bengals from 2009-11. During his time as a student-athlete at ISU, Lacey was named to the Dean’s List from 2009-11, was a Big Sky All-Academic performer from 2009-11, was the Vice President of Marketing for the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee from 2009-11, and acted as an athlete mentor from 2010-11.
Lacey graduated with a B.S. in physical education with an emphasis in sport management from Idaho State in May of 2011 and earned his master’s degree in athletic administration from ISU in May of 2014.
