Ed Hayward came to FAU in March of 1996 with the daunting task of establishing a strong compliance office while preparing and guiding the University through the NCAA Self-Study. Since that time he has ushered the athletic department through more than 15 years of competition with no major violations.
Hayward was rewarded in the winter of 1999 with a promotion to Associate Athletics Director at which time he assumed the responsibility of overseeing several sports. He has been a constant through the administrative changes and has assisted with sport coaching and as the business manager through transitions. In fact, the women's tennis team captured the Atlantic Sun Conference Championship and advanced to the NCAA Regional while he served as interim coach.
Hayward came to FAU after serving as Florida International University's compliance retention and academic support athletic coordinator from January 1992 to February 1996.
Hayward, who received his M.S. in Sports Administration in December 1991 from St. Thomas University, came to Florida from Tennessee Technological University where he served as Admissions Counselor from the University's Office of Admissions from 1988 to 1990.
Hayward was a standout tailback for Tennessee Tech where he was a four-year letterman (1983-85, 1987). He is one of seven Golden Eagles to rush for 1,000 yards in a single season. (1,021, 1985).
Hayward, who received his B.A. with an emphasis in journalism in 1988 from Tennessee Technological University, became involved with the support and advisement of Foot Fraternity, Inc. (football) while working at Tech and continued his community support upon becoming a resident of Miami. He has been a road race coordinator for the Miami Runners Club and has served on the board of directors. Hayward also volunteered for Boys Town of Florida, Miami division, and was a football coach for the North Miami Parks' Recreation Department.
Hayward resides in Miami with his wife, Lisa, and three children, Christian, Justise and daughter Virginia Brya.
