Boca Raton, Fla. - A pair of seniors played a huge impact in helping their respective teams to impressive showings last week as football wide receiver Lester Jean and women's cross country's Friederike Feil have been chosen as this week's Florida Atlantic University Student-Athlete of the Week.
It marks the second time this season that Jean and Feil are receiving the weekly accomplishment.
Jean played a pivotal role in the Owls 21-9 victory over rival Florida International on Saturday in Shula Bowl IX. The Miami, Fla. native caught eight passes for 114 yards and a touchdown to be named the game's Most Valuable Player. Trailing 6-0 in the second quarter Jean hauled in a 20-yard touchdown pass to give FAU its first lead of the game. The reception also was the 11th of his career and moved him to sixth place all-time in the program's record book for touchdown catches. For the season, Jean leads FAU in receptions, receiving yards and touchdowns. He ranks in the top three in the Sun Belt Conference and top 35 nationally in those categories.
Meanwhile, Feil anchored the cross country team to a second place finish in last weekend's Sun Belt Conference Championships in Bowling Green, Ky. The Germany native's time of 17:48.9 earned her a third place finish overall to tie Trisha Boyle for the highest individual finish at the SBC Championships. She earned cross country all-conference honors for the fourth time in her career in the process.
Other nominees include football players Marcus Bartels and Mickey Groody, cross country Josh Wolfe, swimming Eric Williams and tennis' Marc Abdelnour on the men's side. The women's nominations were between swimming Jonna Nyback and volleyball Cintia Nightingale.
