Our last preseason tournament wrapped up in Orlando yesterday (Saturday). We came out of the weekend 2-2. We started the tournament on Thursday evening with host UCF. And, we had trouble connecting. We ended up losing that match in three. On Friday, our first match was against Montana State. Game one went really smoothly. We came out passing and hitting well. Game two was a little closer, but we still remained pretty solid. Game three we let down on our defense and passing a little bit and Montana State pushed to tie up the game. We fought at the end but they ended up winning to close. Game four we came out stronger again and even though the game remained tight we pulled through and won to finish the match 3-1.

Our last game on Friday night was against North Florida. We played well games two and three but then let up on the third game which hurt us. North Florida took the last three games to win the match. To come out and win the first two games and then lose the last three is a hard thing. Our team learned a lot about character that match. You can be ahead those two games and have the momentum in the world but if you let up at all, watch-out, teams will fight for that win. It was a good lesson that paid off on Saturday.

Our final match of the weekend was versus Central Michigan on Saturday afternoon. Central Michigan came out and took the first two games from us. Game three we came out pushing back. Everyone was filling their roles and playing really solidly. We took game three, four, and a tight win in game five to win the match.

Overall, it was a solid weekend for us and a good one to lead into the conference matches. We definitely improved as a team and learned some valuable lessons. Every day is getting better and better. We have this week and next week to practice and work out the little things that we need to do to be successful in conference play. We open up in New Orleans in two weeks.
